Session | Ruling Elder
Committee | Missions Chairman
Hugh Marshall Player was reared in a Christian home as a covenant child in a small, rural town in South Carolina and grew up in Sardinia Presbyterian Church where his great grandfather, grandfather, and father served as Ruling Elders in the church. Hugh came to know Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He does not remember the day or time, however he testifies that it is a marvelous thing that God would choose to love someone as unworthy as he and that Christ was willing to die for his sins.
Hugh and his wife, Cyndi, started attending Second Presbyterian Church in late 1979 shortly after they moved to Greenville and they joined the church in 1981. The Lord blessed them with three children: David, Hilary, and Spencer. All three are now married and they have four grandsons. Hilary’s and Spencer’s families are members of Second Presbyterian Church.
Hugh served on the Diaconate from 1983 to 1987 serving as chairman of Deacons and as property chairman. He was elected as an Elder and started serving in 1989. He has been entrusted with the role of Clerk of the Session since 1990. He has served on various committees of the Session and held the position of Chairman of the Evangelism and Discipleship Committee. He also has served on several presbytery committees and was elected as Moderator of Calvary Presbytery for one term.
