Jesus instructs His disciples to meet him on the mountain where we find the main components of the life of followers of Christ: worship, missions, discipleship, and fellowship (Mt. 28:18-20). These basic ingredients of church life have been articulated in the mission statement of Second Presbyterian Church: Reaching out, folding in, growing up for the glory of God.
Second Pres Mission & Community
The “Reaching out” of our mission statement is accomplished through the preached Word and evangelism. The “folding in and growing up” is accomplished through our community groups. Community is perhaps an overused word in the church but it is simply the idea that we live together for God’s glory and the good of one another. God made us to need each other. He made us to live together as a family of faith.
Why Community Groups?
The purpose of Second’s Sunday School community ministry is to teach consistently the whole counsel of God in the context of our congregational communities; to encourage the fellowship of believers; and to make disciples by equipping Christians to be followers of Jesus Christ, beginning in the home and church and moving to Greenville and beyond.
What Does it Look Like?
Our community groups aim to accomplish the following:
- Communication — informed of what is going on in church & life
- Connection — growing closer together as a body of believers
- Care — elders/shepherds; deacons; fellowship; prayer; concerns
