Chairman, Class of 2018

I grew up on a small farm in Lexington, SC and was raised by Christian parents in the Lutheran Church.  While I had some knowledge of God, it was much later after Susan and I were married that God opened my eyes and heart to truly have the gift of faith to believe in Jesus for my personal salvation.  I cannot point to one single event or a specific time  when this happened, but I know it happened through the work of the Holy Spirit.  It was between the births of our two oldest sons that God taught me of His sovereignty through multiple miscarriages.  Through this time, I learned that God’s plan is perfect and that all things work for good for those who love God.   It was also during this difficult period that God in His providence led us to the PCA in 1984, first at Covenant Presbyterian in Easley.  While members at several PCA churches, we have heard the full counsel of the scriptures preached.  During our time as members of a PCA church,  I have had the opportunity to read and study about the scriptures and the doctrines of the reformed faith.  To me, reformed theology forms a systematic theology that is consistent with the Word of God and I have been blessed by it.  While I am continuing to learn, I know through conviction of the Spirit that there is much for me to work on in the way of sanctification.  I look upon a calling to the diaconate as a way to serve Christ in His church.

Susan and I live in Powdersville.  We have been blessed with three sons, Andrew, Matthew, and Benjamin, all of whom are grown, and have five grandchildren.
